One of the worst train accidents in India's history

One of the worst train accidents in India's history occurred on November 20, 2016, near Pukhrayan, Kanpur, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The incident involved the derailment of the Indore-Patna Express, also known as the Patna-Indore Express or the Kanpur Indore Express.

The train was traveling from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, to Patna, Bihar, when it derailed near Pukhrayan, causing significant loss of life and injuries. The exact cause of the derailment was determined to be a fracture in the tracks. It is believed that the fracture occurred due to an expansion of the tracks caused by the extreme temperature variation between night and day.

The accident resulted in the tragic loss of 150 lives, with more than 200 people sustaining injuries. The rescue operations were conducted by the Indian authorities, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the local police. The injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The incident led to widespread criticism of the Indian Railways' safety measures and infrastructure. It highlighted the need for improved maintenance and upgrading of railway tracks and other safety protocols. Following the accident, the government initiated several measures to enhance railway safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.

It is important to note that India has witnessed several train accidents throughout its history, some of which have resulted in significant casualties. The Pukhrayan train accident is considered one of the worst due to the high number of fatalities and injuries.
